July Wednesday 23rd. July Photography and Heritage On 16th July we shall be indoors discussing both the basics of photography, ways to photograph historic sites and how to use photos, both those we take and old images, to tell stories. On the 23rd we shall be out around the harbour taking pictures Both workshops led by Joseph Traylen a professional photographer based in London Link: Joseph Traylen Photography Thursday 7th August Thursday 14th August Drawing buildings for heritage and evoking memories through drawing On 7th August we shall explore how we can literally draw on our memories. On 14th we will be out in the harbour drawing from life. Both workshops run by David Lay who has led many drawing workshops locally and organised the Creative Quarter "Big Draw" Link: Drawing Workshop Friday 5th September Friday 12th September Devising and delivering a local history guided walk On the first day we shall talk about research and organizing findings into themes. On the 12th we shall be on the streets using place as a trigger for heritage information. Workshops run by David Lay and Dr Maryanne Traylen. David and Maryanne have been devising walks and tours for over ten years both locally and in London Link: Walks Date to be confirmed Writing about Heritage We had the first writing workshop for this project in April. The follow up session will both give existing writers a chance to read their pieces and introduce new contributors. We shall launch the publication during the Folkestone Book Festival in November 2014 Writing workshops run by Dr Maryanne Traylen, published writer, editor and Blake scholar. Academy FM Folkestone A Free Taster Tour On behalf of The Folkestone Townscape Heritage Initiative An introduction to our repertoire of 7 walks on various local history themes. A glimpse of the rich heritage to be found in Folkestone old town touching on many aspects of our town's fascinating heritage: Architecture, seaside entertainment, smuggling, art and literature will all get a mention as will the 19th century regeneration scheme started by Lord Radnor with architects Sydney Smirke and Decimus Burton, it will be compared with the present scheme Time: Morning of Saturday 14th June at 11.30 am The walk will, last about 2 hours. It will start from the Town hall and end at the Town Hall. Maximum group number is 30 If the weather is bad we shall present a slideshow in the Old High Street, a short walk from the Town Hall.
