David of Pavement Pounders was astonished during one of our guided walks to see Charles' image attached to a lamp post on The Leas. The picture, part of Strange Cargo's "Other Peoples' Photos" project dates from the time Charles ran a seaside repertory company in Folkestone. David worked for him as a designer over the years on several remarkable and eventful tours and at Sidmouth in Devon, one of the few remaining weekly reps. Working for Charles was a rite of passage. Often the key to later success was to get yourself sacked by him! The world will be a duller place without his energy and bravado. The Dragon Café is Mental Fight Club’s latest creative project: a relaxing café and imaginative space, open to all, located in the Crypt of St George the Martyr Church, opposite Borough tube station. The creative director of Mental Fight Club is Sarah Wheeler , One of the contributors to Transitions 2 which was launched at the Folkestone Book Festival in November 2012. To launch the search for contributors to Transitions 3 which we intend to publish in May 2013. We are staging readings from Transitions 2 with music from the Afro-jazz singer Maiuko a contributor to both Transitions 1 and 2.Transitions 3 invites people to write about their journey into mental illness and their recovery from it. By turning back to myth – even that of Orpheus’ or Demeter’s descent - perhaps we can look forward to a greater story of which we are part, and by understanding the universal aspect of our own personal experience be freed from its constraints. Our theme will be Ascent. Recovery. Transformation. Reintegration. ‘So much good writing is in itself a form of health’ Reading and Music From Pavement Pounders Publication; Transitions 2 at the Dragon Café, The crypt of St George the Martyr opposite Borough Tube. 7 p.m Monday 18th February 2013 Entrance Free

It has grown into a month-long festival throughout October all over the UK. Every year more people across the world join Big Draw events and engage in creative activities. The Campaign for Drawing is an independent charity which raises the profile of drawing as a tool for thought, creativity, social and cultural engagement. The Campaign has created a new regard for the value of drawing to help people see, think, invent and take action. Its long-term ambition is to change the way drawing is perceived by educationalists and the public. This has won support from leading practitioners in the creative industries and in art, architecture and design colleges, signalling an overdue realisation that drawing is fundamental to the training of students in these disciplines. The Campaign takes a wider view. It sees drawing as a basic human skill useful in all walks of life. The Campaign's work will finish when the words 'I can't draw' are dropped from our vocabulary. The second resulting from seaside regeneration through the arts which is happening now. In Folkestone, the driving forces for these two movements were Lord Radnor, lord of the manor in the Victorian era and Roger DeHann of Saga, the town’s biggest employer , in our own time.
